Health Infrastructure Facilities

Health infrastructure facilities for students, academics and administrative staffs' wellbeing

Universitas Andalas provides a range of healthcare facilities to ensure the well-being of its academic community. These include handwashing stations, first-aid kits, the Klinik Medika Andalas, and the Universitas Andalas (Unand) Hospital. Handwashing stations are installed at the entrance of every building, a measure initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent the spread of infection and still maintained today as part of the university’s hygiene practices. Each building is also equipped with a first-aid kit to provide immediate assistance in case of minor injuries or medical emergencies. At the institutional level, Klinik Medika Andalas serves as the university’s primary healthcare center, offering general medical consultations and basic treatments, while more advanced medical services are provided by the Unand Hospital.

Unand Hospital, officially recognized as a State University Hospital (RSPTN), operates under the governance of Universitas Andalas. Located within the lush Limau Manis Campus in the Pauh Subdistrict of Padang City, West Sumatra, the hospital spans 3.5 hectares of land and has a total building area of 21,306 square meters. Its establishment was made possible through funding from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

The development of Unand Hospital was first conceptualized in 2006, driven by the increasing demand for tertiary healthcare facilities and the need to enhance medical education alongside the city’s main teaching hospital, M. Djamil Hospital. The project officially commenced on March 29, 2014, when Prof. Dr. Ir. Musliar Kasim, MS, former Chancellor of Universitas Andalas and then Deputy Minister of National Education, laid the foundation stone.

Designed with a capacity of 200 beds, Unand Hospital features a comprehensive range of healthcare facilities and infrastructure that fully comply with national health standards. It provides extensive outpatient and inpatient services, surgical and emergency care, pharmacy and referral services, as well as specialized units such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ambulance services. Supporting facilities include radiology, clinical laboratories, and nutrition services. The hospital is also equipped with state-of-the-art radiotherapy technology, establishing it as a center of excellence for the treatment of malignancies and gastrointestinal diseases.
