Impact of Setting and Infrastructure programs in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Universitas Andalas is committed to fostering a sustainable and energy-efficient campus environment through initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

The construction and revitalization of campus buildings adhere to green building principles, emphasizing energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and user well-being. Several buildings are equipped with photovoltaic solar panels that serve as renewable energy sources, supporting SDG 7 by reducing reliance on non-renewable energy and lowering carbon emissions. In addition, natural lighting and ventilation systems are integrated into building designs to minimize energy consumption while enhancing indoor environmental quality. These efforts reflect the university’s commitment to sustainability and responsible energy management.

In support of SDG 11 and SDG 13, Universitas Andalas also promotes low-emission mobility and improved pedestrian accessibility across the campus. A significant initiative includes the construction of a covered pedestrian canopy connecting the main mosque and the student dormitory area, providing shaded, safe, and comfortable pedestrian pathways that encourage walking and reduce dependence on motorized transport. This initiative embodies the university’s vision of developing a walkable, inclusive, and environmentally responsive campus that aligns with global sustainability goals.
