Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Program
CO2 emissions due to yard waste in the form of leaves and twigs in the Andalas University environment reach 2,740.785 kg CO2 if the waste is directly disposed of at the Final Processing Site (TPA). Therefore, efforts need to be made to deal with this problem, one of which is the On-Site Solid Waste Processing Technology (TOSS) program. This program is a method of processing organic waste into alternative fuels. Waste processing using this method has been proven to be able to reduce CO2 by 2,740.785 kg CO2 so that there are no remaining CO2 emissions due to yard waste in the form of leaves and twigs. Details of the calculation of CO2 emissions due to yard waste in the form of leaf and twig waste along with the reduction of CO2 emissions by the waste processing program using the TOSS method can be seen as follows.
Calculating CO2 Emissions from yard waste
ECO2 | = Waste generation x Emission factor |
= 6,418.7 kg x 0.427 kgCO2/kg
= 2,740.785 kg CO2 |
Calculation of remaining CO2 emissions by the yard waste processing program using the On-Site Solid Waste Processing Technology (TOSS) method
Residual CO2 emissions | = CO2 emissions - reduction of CO2 emissions by the TOSS program |
= 2,740.785 kg CO2 - 2,740.785 kg CO2
= 0 kg CO2 |
