Universitas Andalas, widely known as UNAND, is a distinguished state university located in Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Celebrated as the first university established outside of Java, UNAND was officially inaugurated on December 23, 1955, by Vice President Mohammad Hatta, marking it as the fourth university founded by the Indonesian government.

The Limau Manis Campus, affectionately called Limau Manih by locals, began its development following a groundbreaking ceremony led by the Minister of Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hassan, on March 11, 1986. This event initiated a phased construction process that included the establishment of key facilities such as the rectorate building, lecture halls, faculty and department buildings, laboratories, libraries, and student dormitories. Although the campus has been operational since 1989, the development of its infrastructure and facilities continues progressively to this day.

Currently, Universitas Andalas consists of fifteen faculties, most of which are concentrated at the Limau Manis Campus, with additional campuses located in Padang, Payakumbuh, and Dharmasraya. Despite its expansive 500-hectare site, only 135 hectares are designated as safe for construction. The remaining area is dedicated to protected forest land, a Sumatran medicinal plant conservation forest, pasture zones, and steep terrains reserved for community and environmental stewardship. Nearly all of the 135 hectares of buildable land have been developed in accordance with the Master Plan of the Limau Manis Campus, maintaining a careful balance between academic functionality and environmental preservation.
